Sarah Burns, Front Desk Coordinator – Peninsula Radiation Oncology Center (PROC)
For the past three years, Sarah has been an essential part of the Peninsula Radiation Oncology Center (PROC) team. Known for her positivity, work ethic, and dedication to patient-centered care, Sarah exemplifies the values that define PROC’s mission and culture.
Sarah’s career began at a young age, taking on her first job as a house cleaner before working at Safeway and on the docks, where she sorted fish and shoveled ice. She later managed the produce department at Country Foods and oversaw beer, wine, and liquor sales with Odom Corporation.
Through these varied experiences, Sarah developed a strong sense of discipline, adaptability, and customer service—skills that continue to guide her in healthcare today.

Sarah first learned about PROC through a connection in the dental field and was immediately drawn to the organization’s commitment to treating all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. “That really stood out to me,” she shares. “I wanted to work for a company that truly puts people first.”
Since joining the team, Sarah has built a reputation for going above and beyond. Whether assisting patients with needs outside her official duties or helping colleagues find solutions, her dedication to others sets her apart.
Working in oncology, Sarah recognizes that compassion and empathy are just as vital as clinical excellence. “A cancer diagnosis can carry a lot of fear and uncertainty,” she explains. “I try to treat everyone with kindness and make their day a little brighter—because at the end of the day, we’re all human.”
That spirit of empathy has created lasting bonds with patients and their families. Many return to the clinic long after treatment has ended—sometimes to share photos, express gratitude, or simply give Sarah a hug. “It’s incredibly meaningful when a patient’s family stops by to visit,” she says. “It shows that the care we provide extends far beyond treatment.”
Outside of PROC, Sarah enjoys life with her husband, Keanan, on their property just outside the city. Together they share their home with two dogs and a cat, and spend their free time hiking, camping, kayaking, four-wheeling, gaming, and cooking together. Sarah is also a devoted aunt to nine nieces and nephews, ranging in age from seven to twenty-six.
For Sarah, the most rewarding part of working at Peninsula Radiation Oncology Center is the people. “We have a small, close-knit staff, and we really are like family,” she says.
“We spend time together outside of work, support each other through challenges, and celebrate the good times. It’s special to work somewhere where you feel so appreciated—by both your team and your patients.”

Sarah’s story is one of compassion, integrity, and connection—a reminder that healthcare is not only about treatment, but about humanity. Her commitment to excellence and empathy continues to make a lasting impact on everyone who walks through PROC’s doors.
